"...that others may live."

Thank you for your interest in joining Blue Mountain Search and Rescue. As you contemplate this humanitarian commitment, please know that the sacrifice of personal time is something you must seriously consider before becoming involved in a professional search and rescue team.  There is also a good deal of personal equipment, training, and traveling expenses that could be incurred at your own expense. If accepted for membership, you will be expected to attend training sessions and further your education in search and rescue in whichever field you find most interesting and within your own personal capabilities.  There are many aspects of running a successful search mission and training and preparedness is foremost.  If you are not prepared to face the possibility of getting up at 3:00 a.m. on a cold winter night with sleet and freezing rain, willing to drive two or more hours if necessary, then you ought to reconsider. There are also minimum standards and certifications you must obtain to become part of the team under mission-ready status.  If you are not trained properly, you may be putting yourself, the subject, and the other team members at risk. Members are also asked to participate in one of our committees and to be active in furthering the team and expanding your knowledge. The rewards of search and rescue can be great, exciting, and sometimes tragic, but never forgotten by those in desperate need and their loved ones.

Sincerely,

Chris Winterstein

President
